A concrete step forward secured thanks to the mobilisation of local residents and municipalities
Several articles have recently reported on the provisional agreement endorsed before the Justice of the Peace concerning noise and vibrations on metro line 1 in Brussels.
This decision is a concrete step forward for local residents. However, it is essential to recall its origin: these measures are not the result of a spontaneous initiative by STIB-MIVB. They were secured thanks to the mobilisation of local residents, the municipalities concerned and their legal advisers.
After several years of nuisance, excessive noise and vibrations, formal steps and an attempted conciliation, this mobilisation made it possible to obtain provisional measures without waiting for the judgment on the merits. STIB-MIVB has thus committed to limiting the operation of certain M7 trains identified as particularly problematic, as well as to ensuring regular monitoring of the measures taken.
This step forward confirms the value of the collective action undertaken by local residents and municipalities. It encourages us to continue, with all the stakeholders concerned, the steps aimed at obtaining all the necessary measures to effectively reduce the nuisance and protect residents' rest.
Stop Bruit Metro welcomes this concrete step forward and will remain attentive to compliance with the commitments made, to their real impact on the ground, and to the continuation of the steps towards a lasting and definitive solution for all local residents concerned.
