MR proposes reducing the speed of M7 metros after 10 pm
Brussels MPs Amélie Pans, Aurélie Czekalski and Anne-Charlotte d'Ursel (MR) have submitted a motion for a resolution to reduce the speed of M7 metros on lines 1 and 5 between 10 pm and 7 am (FR, NL) as a transitional measure until STIB/MIVB replaces the wheels concerned. Stop Bruit Métro welcomes this proposal, which could bring relief — especially at night — to residents who have been suffering from these nuisances since 2021.
STIB/MIVB is not commenting on the proposal, but according to RTBF it mainly points to a “drop in complaints”. That argument needs to be qualified: the number of complaints is not a reliable indicator of the level of nuisance experienced. As a reminder, a recent study by Brussels Environment confirmed that the nuisance persists.
Stop Bruit Métro remains in regular contact with residents, who confirm that the problem has not been resolved and that current measures remain insufficient. Several of them tell us they have lost trust in STIB/MIVB and are therefore focusing on other avenues (legal and political) rather than filing complaints.
Stop Bruit Métro remains mobilised until a concrete, verifiable and lasting solution is in place.
