WSL's legal action progresses, the municipality remains cautious about possible solutions
The municipality of Woluwe-Saint-Lambert has published an official statement regarding the legal action it initiated in May 2024 against STIB, jointly with 28 local residents.
The municipality indicates that the proceedings are progressing. The final report from the acoustics expert, appointed by the Justice of the Peace to objectively assess the situation at the complainants' homes, is due to be finalised by the end of 2025.
Like our collective, the WSL College (Mayor Olivier Maingain and Alderman Gregory Matgen) stresses, however, that caution is still required. This caution is justified by several points:
- A distant timeline: STIB has announced a "significant improvement" only "during the course of 2026".
- Excessive nuisance levels remain: An expert assessment conducted by Brussels Environment in June 2025 (following a collective complaint) confirms that "threshold values continue to be exceeded" and are still affecting residents.
This communication confirms the need for legal and citizen pressure to move this issue forward.
Stop Bruit Metro welcomes this commitment and remains mobilised alongside the residents until a concrete, verifiable, and sustainable solution is implemented.
