Four years of nuisance: residents deliver a bitter birthday cake to the STIB and the Minister

08-07-2025

Exactly four years after the introduction of the M7 metro trains on the STIB network (FR), Stop Bruit Metro and residents from the municipalities of Woluwe-Saint-Lambert and Anderlecht "marked" this bitter anniversary with a symbolic action. They delivered cakes to the management of STIB and to the Brussels Regional Minister for Mobility, Elke Van den Brandt herself, at the Brussels Parliament. The action was supported and attended by MPs Amélie Pans (MR) and Sofia Bennani (Les Engagés).

This symbolic gesture reflects the bitterness and exhaustion felt by residents after four years of excessive nuisance, persistent lack of transparency, and the absence of lasting solutions.

During the meeting, a glimmer of hope was shared: the Minister mentioned that a solution may have been found regarding the wheels of the M7 metro trains. Residents now urgently await clarification from STIB:

  • Confirmation of this solution and its precise details.
  • A clear timeline for its rollout across the entire M7 fleet.
  • Concrete transitional measures to reduce the nuisance in the meantime, as the current actions (such as rail grinding) have proven insufficient and short-lived.

The citizen initiative Stop Bruit Metro will continue to organise and take action until the nuisance problem is resolved in a satisfactory and lasting way.
